Hey guys. First journal entry. Since I'm starting to get way more involved with dA, I might as well jot some stuff in the journal anyone's so inclined to read what I've got to say. So to keep it not-so-scary with a wall of text, I'll write about the first good movie this year, Oblivion (2013). Since short version displayed: Did you like it? Did you hate it? Why?
No synopsis from me, go look it up elsewhere. I actually prefer going into a movie without really knowing what it's about. I think Oblivion, despite the (current) 55 it got on Metacritic, is a fantastic sci-fi movie. The director claims it's a homage to a large array of movies from the 1970s but I just don't see it. Instead I saw tons of inspiration from modern sci fis and not just from movies, but largely from games as well.
All visual designs seemed to be inspired by those titles, and in a very good way. The movie kept throwing plot twists that countered my predictions (most of them anyways) and I enjoyed that. Tom Cruise was on a crummy streak with his flicks (sans Ghost Protocol), but I think this movie sparked something. His acting/character didn't require much vigor, but it was sufficient.
Oblivion in a sentence: The best sci-fi of 2013 so far with wonderful inspiration from many popular and successful sci-fi titles. Did you like it? Did you hate it? Why?
